你好 我在美国上大三 有较强论文水平 希望能够帮助你

My friend,

How are you doing these days? I got your email last time which said that you would come to China soon. As a native person here, I want to give you some information about chinese customs. First thing I want to mention is that whenever you are driving or walking , you should always do that on the right side of the road. Secondly, when you are having dinner with some chinese, they will always get you some more dishes. Even if you are full, you shouldn't resist them. Thirdly, if you want to give some chinese a gift, a clock is the least thing you want to consider. Finally, there will be lots of cultural shocks, but you can just tell people around you when you don't feel comfortable and people will help you get out of that difficult situation.

Take care

拜年Pay a New Year Call

An important activity during the Spring Festival is bainian (to pay a New Year call).People start to pay New Year calls from the lunar New Year's Day,that is, the first day of the first month of the lunar calendar. Ever since the Ming Dynasty in the 14th century, ordinary people have begun to exchange greeting cards on this day.

On the morning of the lunar New Year's Day,people get up very early and call on others. The earlier one does so,the more sincere he is. Moreover, people wear new clothes and a new cap, symbolizing that a new year has begun.

The younger generation should call on their elders first, such as the grandfather, grandmother, father and mother, wishing them "Good health" and "Long life". Then the elders give children some money in a red envelope as a New Year gift. After that, people call on their relatives, friends and neighbors. As "big tangerine" is a homonym for "very lucky" in Chinese,so people often present red big tangerines as a gift while paying a New Year call.

Nowadays, besides greeting cards, people also use telephones and e-mails to pay New Year calls.

China Dining Custom
Table Manners

The main difference between Chinese and western eating habits is that unlike the West, where everyone has their own plate of food, in China the dishes are placed on the table and everybody shares. If you are being treated by a Chinese host, be prepared for a ton of food. Chinese are very proud of their culture of cuisine and will do their best to show their hospitality.

And sometimes the Chinese host use their chopsticks to put food in your bowl or plate. This is a sign of politeness. The appropriate thing to do would be to eat the whatever-it-is and say how yummy it is. If you feel uncomfortable with this, you can just say a polite thank you and leave the food there.

Social Customs and Behavior
「社会习俗与行为」

Social customs and ways of behaving change. Things which were considered impolite many years ago are now acceptable. To see a woman smoking in public today is not surprising, nor is it always 'ladies first' through doors, or on a crowded bus or train need the man give his seat to a woman. Customs also differ from country to country. The important thing to remember about social customs is not to do anything that might make other people feel uncomfortable, especially if they are your guests.
